Daily Variant Creation Limit Reached

If you see a “Daily variant upload limit reached” error in Clonely, it means Shopify has temporarily paused your import. This is not a Clonely bug — it’s a Shopify platform restriction.

Why this happens

Shopify limits how many new variants non-Plus stores can create per day. Once your store reaches 50,000 total variants, you can only add up to 1,000 new variants per 24-hour period. This restriction applies across all creation methods — the Shopify admin, apps, and CSV imports. Once the limit is hit, no new variants can be added through any of these channels until it resets.

The limit applies to new variant creation only — updating existing products and their variants is not affected.

How Clonely handles it

Clonely detects when Shopify’s daily limit has been reached and automatically pauses the import. Once Shopify resets the limit (every 24 hours), the import resumes and picks up where it left off. You don’t need to restart or reconfigure anything.

Your options

Wait for the reset The simplest option. Shopify resets the limit every 24 hours, and Clonely will continue your import automatically.

Contact Shopify Support You can contact Shopify Support and request a temporary increase to your variant creation limit. This is an option they offer to stores with legitimate high-volume needs.

Upgrade to Shopify Plus The daily variant creation limit does not apply to Shopify Plus stores. If you regularly import large catalogs, upgrading eliminates this restriction entirely.
